Every month (or nearly), I have the privilege of attending a meeting with four of the most caring people I know. We meet to talk about our members and how they are doing. We discuss each person, some briefly and others at length. Our operations manager, Diane Strobel, often volunteers when she’s not working and knows many of our members well—their stories, history, and families. Liz Williamson, SCVV care manager, assesses potential members and keeps in touch with how members are doing. Betty Martin and Chris Powers are incredibly active volunteers as well as the heart of our membership team.
As the new SCVV chair, I’m getting to know more and more members and volunteers and am in awe of the talents of the people I meet. Your accomplishments are impressive, and it’s more than coincidence that many of us share similar backgrounds and stories. Recently, I was catching up with a volunteer who graduated from the same college as my big brother—maybe not so unusual—but he also was friends with the first boy to hold my hand during a field trip when we were in first or second grade! Our common ground was being kids in Baltimore.
We have a strong group of volunteers. Our Steering Committee chairs and members welcome new people and ideas. As you read this issue of the newsletter, you’ll see there’s lots going on—and more coming! Feel free to reach out to me at my new email:Chair@SouthCoastalVillageVolunteers.org
